Columbus Castings America's Largest Steel Foundry (now closed) |
In 2014, I had the unique experience of exploring and photographing Columbus Steel Castings, the largest steel foundry in America. It was like the bowels of Hell, but in a good way. Smoky, air thick with the detritus of steel production, sparks and flames everywhere. A mistep could lead to immediate fiery death. The workers were a great, friendly bunch of men and women, generally with only eyes visible though the masks, goggles, protective clothing ... They smiled at you with their eyes. |
